Farm Bureau leader says Washington still has work to do

A Wisconsin Farm Bureau official says President Trump’s visit to Wisconsin on Friday highlighted some accomplishments, but more work needs to be done.

Jason Mugnaini tells Brownfield that estate tax relief in the One Big Beautiful Bill is great, yet other priorities need attention. “We’ve got to get the farm bill done. We’ve got to get E15 over the hump. We have to have some relief in the trade deals, and there’s been a lot of discussion about international trade and bringing back things, and the things that are happening in dairy in terms of international trade.”

Mugnaini says getting President Trump to Wisconsin to meet with farmers was important. “The policies at the federal and even at the state level need to happen so that agriculture has it’s best days in front of it.”

President Trump told Friday’s crowd that prices will improve in the next three months, and Mugnaini says farmers will be paying attention. “You know, the President said it several times, keep an eye on the next three months, and I think farmers hear that and we’re going to be taking a close eye and looking at the next three months. Bringing prices down, bringing inputs down, bringing back input manufacturing here to the United States, those are all going to be really critical things here for the future of agriculture, and we hope that those things are going to get delivered.”

Mugnaini says getting a farm bill remains the focus, and year-round nationwide E15 also has a lot of momentum in Washington D.C. right now.
