Farm Bureau praises tax and bonding wins, laments missing ag bill in Minnesota

Minnesota Farm Bureau is giving mixed reviews at the conclusion of the 2026 state legislative session.

President Dan Glessing tells Brownfield MFBF is disappointed legislators could not pass an agriculture bill.

“But pleased that the tax bill had some agricultural perspectives and benefits to farmers and ranchers, and bonding.”

He says the cap on the Beginning Farmer Tax Credit was removed.

“Fortunately we got it uncapped, but unfortunately it’s only for one year. We would’ve liked to have seen that been permanent, now hopefully that’ll catch up on some backlogs of those who’ve applied for that.”

Glessing says the bonding package included money for water and transportation infrastructure that will benefit farmers in the state.
