Farm Bureau survey: Thanksgiving meal cheaper this year
An economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation says cooking a Thanksgiving dinner will cost less than it did last year.
“With the average cost for 10 people, we’re looking at $55.18 or about $5.20 a person.”
Faith Parum says turkey costs have declined this year.
“We actually see a 16 percent decrease in the price of turkey. That’s really good news. It’s actually the lowest share of the bill it’s ever been. So that means while it is the most expensive, you’re getting good bang for your buck.”
According to Farm Bureau’s annual survey, side dishes were more expensive this year. While the prices for ingredients to make sides like dinner rolls and stuffing have declined, there are some slight price increases for dairy and fresh produce, including sweet potatoes, carrots and celery, due to the volatility of the market.
Farm Bureau also says the price of the Thanksgiving meal increases to $77.09 if ham, russet potatoes and frozen green beans are added to the table. Check out the survey results.
