Farm equipment innovations target labor shortages with faster, higher‑capacity machines

Brownfield's Meghan Grebner interview Cort Morris with Kubota.

From tractors and balers to cultivation equipment the focus is making farmers and ranchers more efficient.

Cort Morris product manager with Kubota says the company’s new high capacity, dual chamber square baler addresses one of the biggest issues facing agriculture – labor.

“This machine will do the job of two balers,” he says. “So now you have the opportunity to not only pull one baler and one tractor out of your field at a time, but you also no longer have to rely on that second operator.”

Marc Heater with Amazone says the company’s high-speed cultivator maximizes producer time in the field. “Running out of labor in the US and time is minimal, especially during wet seasons, and getting people to sit in the tractors,” he says. “So being able to go wide, 30-feet, 40-feet and still run 8 to 12 miles an hour. It’s about being productive and getting a lot of things done during the times when you can be on the field.”

National Farm Machinery Show runs through Saturday.
