Farm gate prices declined in July

The USDA says prices farmers received in July declined at a faster rate then what they paid.

The index of prices received was down 3.8 percent, with crop and livestock sectors both posting declines.

The USDA says lower prices for milk, broilers, grapes and cattle were offset by higher prices for lemons, market eggs, strawberries and onions.

The index of prices paid was down two tenths, with lower prices for feeder pigs, complete feeds, feed grains and supplements.  Prices paid were higher for feeder cattle, self-propelled machinery, repairs and other services.
