Farm groups benefit from fair foodstand sales

Some of Wisconsin’s agricultural groups rely on the Wisconsin State Fair to help carry out their missions.

Food stands are everywhere at the State Fair, but eating at certain ones will help ag producers.

Dave Goss manages the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association food stand, where along with thousands of burgers, they will sell over 15,000 ribeye sandwiches during the 11-day State Fair. “The biggest goals for this is creating the funds so we can educate our society on what the cattlemen brings and offers to the industry out there.”

Kari Retallick with the Wisconsin Pork Producers Association tells Brownfield the Pork Schoppe sales pay for things the pork checkoff cannot pay for. “We’re very fortunate in the State of Wisconsin to have this opportunity to raise unrestricted funds, and those funds go to promote our legislative activities that we need, like taking our producers to Washington D.C. to help promote the farm bill.”

Retallick says working for better farm policy is an important part of sustaining a healthy pork industry.

The stuffed baked potatoes offered by the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association also raise funds for advocacy and education.
