Farm Rescue delivering aid to Nebraska wildfire victims

Farm Rescue volunteers are stepping up to assist farmers and ranchers affected by wildfires in Nebraska.

Tim Sullivan, executive director emeritus, says it’s been a troubling year for many producers in the state.

“It’s been one of those things where people are desperate,” he said. “They got totally wiped out. Some of them lost cattle, and fencing and all of that has to be rebuilt.”

Nearly 900,000 acres have burned in Nebraska this year, and Sullivan says Farm Rescue’s network has been hauling hay to impacted areas.

“It’s all donated hay,” he said. “We have a long list of people that want to give, and so we haul that hay when there’s a need. With the wildfires in Nebraska, we’ve hauled well over 100 loads down there.”

Sullivan says their response efforts in Nebraska continue today.

In July, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins approved a disaster declaration for 21 Nebraska counties, making affected ranchers eligible for USDA loan assistance.
