Farm Technology Days an opportunity to teach farm safety

A farm safety organization is urging families to be very careful as grain bin cleaning and filling season arrives.

Brian Kuhl with Progressive Agriculture tells Brownfield people die every year from grain bin engulfment. “And the easiest way to prevent that is to just stay out of the grain bins.”

Kuhl is working with the Wisconsin FFA State Officer team to demonstrate how dangerous gravity boxes and grain bins can be. “Our hope is because it’s hands-on, because it creates that interest level, that they will go home and tell their parents about it, tell their parents what they learned, tell their parents about those dangers, and hopefully keep their parents out of those grain bins as well.”

Kuhl says it doesn’t take much grain for someone to get into serious trouble. “Once you get past that knee-level, thigh-level, you’re to a point where you are going to need help getting out. You’re will not be able to get out of that grain by yourself.”

Progressive Agriculture offers many types of farm safety training throughout the U.S. and Canada.
