Farmer concern about MAHA movement

The president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association is concerned the “Make America Healthy Again” movement could be detrimental to agriculture.

Darin Johnson, who farms near Wells, says its critical ag producers speak up because science is on its side.

“We need to be loud about it, as far as seed oils goes we have the American Heart Association data that’s backing everything up. But we need to make sure we’re getting it out there.”

Johnson and other members of Minnesota Soybean were in Washington D.C. last week to talk with lawmakers about pressing issues.

He tells Brownfield MAHA was brought up repeatedly as it gains steam on social media.

“I believe in one month it went from 200 million to 600 million followers in this MAHA movement, so kind of a big deal. Especially with us and how we’re producing some of our crops right now, and we’re always under that scope.”

The MAHA website says the group is leading the charge for sustainable farming practices that rebuild soil, reduce chemical reliance, and promote biodiversity.
