A southwest Iowa farmer says he’s hopeful Congress can replace the farm bill extension with a new five-year package in 2025.
But, Ray Gaesser, who serves as a farm bill advisor for House Ag Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson, says the new Congress may begin the year with other priorities. “Renewing some of the tax abatements that are out there,” he said. “Reviewing the budgets and trying not to spend so much.”
He tells Brownfield 2018 Farm Bill programs need some updates. “The costs have gone up 50-to-100%. We need more support in helping build our exports than we’ve had the last few years.”
Gaesser says he’d also like to see a boost in funding for conservation.
