Farmer reports stink bug damage in soybeans
Like many farmers in the Eastern Corn Belt, Anngie Steinbarger says she has noticed stink bug damage in her soybean fields.
“Quality is a concern as we finish up our soybean harvest- we want to make sure we’re putting good quality soybeans in the bin,” she says. “Several of the fields that we’ve harvested have stinkbug damage, it’s not quite the quality of soybeans we’re used to”
She tells Brownfield she is surprised by the soybean quality and is planning to apply fungicide next growing season.
“If we continue to get this wet weather during the growing season…it’s not something we’ve normally worried about but I think it’s something that better be on our radar next year”
Steinbarger says although it hasn’t been a banner year, she IS pleased with corn yields.
She wrapped up corn harvest early this week and has about a third of the soybean crop left.
