Farmer says crops damaged after Thursday morning storm

A Southeast Nebraska farmer says some of his crops may not recover from damage sustained during Thursday’s severe storms.

Logan Bredemeier farms near the Missouri River near Falls City and tells Brownfield was some hail and significant wind gusts. “I haven’t really seen any hail damage out of hit since it was small and short duration. We did have some corn knocked pretty flat.  Nothing broke off, but not likely to recover to be fully upright.”

He says his corn crop is mostly in good shape, but soybeans are a different story. “It’s kind of variable depending on where you are in the county, and how early they were planted.  The early-planted ones have more development to them and look bushy and more filled out than some of the later stuff.”

Bredemeier says his area has been abnormally dry this spring, but has caught enough timely rains to avoid being impacted by significant drought.
