Farmer says he will receive very little income from crops this year
A northwestern Ohio farmer says he only planted about 20 percent of his corn crop this year.
Rusty Goebel raises corn, soybeans, wheat, cattle, and hogs in Williams County.
“We got enough corn planted to take care of the livestock, but we normally sell 80 percent of our corn and this year we will have nothing really to sell of the corn,” he says. “We will be receiving very little income off of the growing crops this year.”
He tells Brownfield he’s never seen a year like this.
“I’ve seen prevent plant before, but it would have been 5 percent, not in the 60-70 percent like this year,” he says. “My father still helps us some – he’s 85 and will be 86 this November – and this is the worst year he’s ever seen.”
Goebel hosted a roundtable with Congressman Bob Latta on his farm last week to talk about the challenges facing farmers this growing season.
