Farmer stays resilient, says farm bill would help
A southwestern Wisconsin farmer says it has been challenging on the farm, but he remains positive. James Edge farms with his wife, daughter, and father-in-law near Fennimore, where they raise about 130 head of beef cattle.
Edge tells Brownfield even with low commodity prices creating lower feed prices, he has to pay close attention to markets and prices. He says when farming gets tough, his family gives him strength. “I have a good strong family behind me, talking to them when I need them, a little laugh once in a while, and not giving up.”
Edge says he’d like to see Congress and the new administration make some progress on ag issues. “I hope they get the farm bill straightened out, and get some trade issues squared away with marketing and where our beef goes and comes (from, with) more transparency on that.”
Edge spoke to Brownfield during the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Wisconsin Dells this past weekend.
