Farmer takes advantage of price spike and sees hot dry ahead

A southwest Missouri farmer says he’s taken advantage of the surge in corn prices, “We’ve sold a little bit of old crop. We haven’t sold any new crop yet but it’s on our minds here this morning.” 

Kyle Kirby farms in southwest Missouri where it’s supposed to be in the mid to upper 90s all week. He tells Brownfield Ag News, “We’re running the irrigators and hoping that we save enough moisture until we get that pollination done because we are going to get dry, it sounds like, and hot. The forecast has us pretty hot here in the coming days.”

Kirby says his early corn has already pollinated but he’s concerned about the peak of pollination for the rest of his crop which is coming up soon.
