Farmer urges patience during harvest
A northwest Iowa farmer says farmers need to practice patience during harvest.
Kelly Nieuwenhuis tells Brownfield it can be easy to develop a sense of urgency when there’s a lot of work to be done in a short amount of time. “There’s been too many accidents already this fall. It’s always sad to see situations like that when people are injured severely or even killed.”
He says farmers should stop working when they start to feel fatigued. “We still try to get our rest and try to be patient. We’re getting older and so we don’t run as long as we used to. We know when it’s time to call it a day and get started for the next day.”
The American Farm Bureau says farm families should have an emergency plan in place.
