Farmer weighs nutrient program amid high input costs
A Northeast Nebraska farmer says cost of production is his biggest concern in 2025.
Greg Anderson tells Brownfield he’s evaluating his crop nutrient program to help improve margins. “Probably the thing that I’ve done more than ever is to really look hard and at those grid samples and to make sure that when those fields are gridded that you’re going to be able to really see acre by acre where those fertilizer and lime needs are the greatest.”
He says while cutting back is an option, he doesn’t want to sacrifice yields. “Wherever we can save costs, that’s what we’re trying to do. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and put up those nutrients or whatever input that you need just because it’s absolutely needed. You can’t do it without.”
Anderson says he’s also delaying some equipment upgrades and will reevaluate this fall.
