Farmers concerned about impacts of ag policy in 2025
An ag economist says farmers have expressed concern about how changes in ag policy could affect their operations in the latest Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer.
Professor emeritus Jim Mintert says, “We’ve been asking people about some key factors that might have influenced their sentiment both before and after the presidential election, and respondents are aware of and concerned about the possibility of a trade war having a negative impact on US agriculture.”
He tells Brownfield future ag policy could shape the barometer’s questions moving forward.
“What’s taking place with respect to a farm bill and what people might expect to see from that,” he says. “I think those factors are going to play into some of the questions that we’re going to ask and play into where people are at with respect to farmer sentiment.”
The Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer is a nationwide measure of the health of the U.S. agricultural economy and surveys 400 agricultural producers on economic sentiment each month.
