Farmers could see relief as USDA, White House weigh support options

Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins told reporters on Thursday the USDA is working closely with the White House to determine what assistance looks like as farmers navigating high input costs and low commodity prices.

Brooke Rollins tells Brownfield “we’re still watching the markets, nothing’s official yet. But whether its Section 32 funds, the tariffs give us an elegant avenue to reimburse some real challenges in farm country.”

While Rollins was in Missouri, President Trump said tariff revenue will be used to help assist U.S. farmers that have faced a struggling rural economy. John Newton with Terrain says if that happens, it will require Congressional action.

“Whether its modifying Section 32 or if that doesn’t work, do they look at the Commodity Credit Corporation?”

Newton says it’s significant to see the president acknowledge that farmer assistance is needed.

“How much support is needed is still up in the air, but the commitment from the president helps a lot of people feel better in farm country.”
