Farmers feeling the impact from high fertilizer prices

A fertilizer market expert says high prices are having an impact on farmers.

Josh Linville is with StoneX Group and says, “They aren’t dealing with it well. This is already a year that most people will tell you farm economics don’t make a lot of sense. This is a survival year at best. Seeing these prices rise as we get into the bulk of the spring season, the emotion ranges from confusion to anger.”

But he tells Brownfield purchases are still occurring. “At the end of the day, I think most people are putting their heads down and realizing that if they don’t fertilize they can’t raise a crop, and if they don’t have a crop they can’t sell at the end of the year and survive until next year. They are very begrudgingly stepping in and buying their needs for spring.”

Linville says potash prices have increased 25% since the start of the year.
