Farmers get a lot of field time during dry Wisconsin week

Another mostly-dry week allowed Wisconsin farmers to get into fields to finish up small grain harvesting, cut hay, and dig potatoes.  Several farmers were also cutting hay and doing some fall seeding last week.

Over 90% of Wisconsin’s corn is now in the dough stage, with 50% of it in the dent stage, about a day behind average.  Five percent of the state’s corn is mature.  The overall condition is down a point with 64% now in good to excellent condition.

Nearly all of Wisconsin’s soybeans are done setting pods, with 45% of the plants coloring and 10% dropping leaves.  Soybean condition went up a point last week, with 62% rated good to excellent.

Ninety-eight percent of the oats are now in the bin.

Eleven percent of the winter wheat has been planted, and some of the fields are beginning to emerge.

The potato harvest is 42% finished, with 88% of the potatoes rated as good to excellent, down 2% from a week ago.

Pasture conditions dropped four points with 57% now rated good to excellent.  The third cutting of hay is 96% finished, and the fourth cutting is 44% done.
