FarmFest features four candidate forums

Rural Minnesotans are being reminded of the potential impact of this year’s elections as FarmFest gets underway in Redwood County.

Farm management analyst Kent Thiesse coordinates the forums held at FarmFest each year.  He says this year there will be four major candidate forums featuring some high-profile races.

“With two U.S. Senate seats due to Senator Franken’s resignation, and then of course a very high-profile Minnesota Governor’s race, and some very competitive congressional races.”

Thiesse tells Brownfield FarmFest presents a unique opportunity for rural voters to learn more about the candidates.

“All the focus (during) these forums is on issues related to agriculture, rural families, (and) rural communities.  It’s important to know where these candidates stand on these various issues.”

The first of two U.S. Senate candidate forums was held this morning.  This afternoon, there will be a Congressional candidate debate that includes long-time Representative Collin Peterson.  The Governor Candidate Forum begins at 10:30 tomorrow, and the other U.S. Senate forum starts at 10:30 on Thursday.  All FarmFest Forums take place in the Wicks Building at the Gilfillan Estate south of Redwood Falls.
