Farmland values in a holding pattern as grain prices and interest rates weigh on market
A real estate agent says farmland values are currently in a holding pattern.
Kraig Urkoski is with AgWest Land Brokers in Nebraska…
“Land values have gotten a little softer with the price of these grains, and with interest rates the way they are, but they’ve relatively held on strong considering everything going on.”
He tells Brownfield inventory is picking up steam.
“The guys that bought ground the last three to five years the interest rates were higher at that time than the guys that bought the previous five to ten years and had a cheaper interest rate. The interest rate is killing them right now on those big dollar payments.”
Urkoski says it’s taking longer to sell tracts of land compared to the start of 2025.
“If the seller is willing to take their time, we do seem like we’ve had good luck getting it sold.”
He says he doesn’t expect a sudden drop in land values anytime soon.
