Favorable weather pushes harvest ahead of schedule in southeast Iowa

A farmer in southeastern Iowa says the 2025 harvest is moving along quicker than he expected.

Tim Meyer says producers in his area have had favorable conditions this month.

“I’ve been all over the state and I feel like southeast Iowa has probably got as many crops out as anywhere,” he said. “I would say the bean crop is probably 80% out and the corn is probably 60% out.”

He tells Brownfield the corn crop is very dry.

“The corn is good yielding. It’s brittle. We’re down in that 13% for corn, pretty common. The beans are real dry also at 7%-to-9%.”

Meyer says there have been some storage concerns.

“Folks are not full, but they are getting very close,” he said. “Our real local elevator is somewhat full and they shutdown for a few days last week.”

He says most of the storage issues are occurring because a lot of old crop corn got held over.
