FCC moves ahead with Rural Digital Opportunity Fund
The Federal Communications Commission has voted to provide more than $20 billion to help boost rural broadband.
FCC chairman Ajit Pai says they are moving forward with the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, and will hold a competitive auction for the first round of dollars sometime this year.
The move comes as farmers and rural businesses continue to struggle accessing high-speed internet.
Ofir Schlam, CEO of precision ag company Taranis, tells Brownfield their vision includes more broadband.
“To be able to do everything on the fly literally as we fly (our drones). That would be the most amazing solution for our clients, who could benefit from faster turnaround time.”
Pai calls the Fund “FCC’s boldest step yet” to ensure digital opportunity reaches all Americans.
