FDA approves genetically modified pig

The Food and Drug Administration has, for the first time, approved a line of genetically modified pigs for use in both food and medical products.

The pig is genetically engineered to eliminate the presence of alpha-gal, a type of sugar which can cause allergies in some people.

The FDA calls it “a tremendous milestone for scientific innovation”.
