Feed Technology Complex gets funds

The University of Illinois is getting a mix of public and private funding for a new Feed Technology Complex at the university’s South Farms. It will be a state-of the art operation to replace the university’s feed mill that’s 100 years old. Governor Pat Quinn announced that $3.5 Million dollars will come from the state’s Illinois Jobs Now capital construction program. Archer Daniels Midland company (ADM) has agreed to donate $1.5 Million for the project. The total estimated cost is just over $13 Million. Quinn says the complex will help the University of Illinois “maintain its reputation for excellence in animal science research and education.” The complex will support the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES)’ programs in animal nutrition, bioprocessing and bioenergy.
