Feenstra hopeful tariffs will benefit U.S. farmers

A U.S. Congressman is hopeful tariffs will benefit American agriculture.

Randy Feenstra says the Trump administration has done a good job of leveraging the trade tactic with Canada and Mexico.

“However, we’ve got to make sure Mexico keeps buying our corn. We have to make sure Brazil treats us right, Brazil has an 18 percent tariff on ethanol. That’s not right. So for me it’s about protecting the farmers.”

And the Iowa Republican tells Brownfield he believes President Trump has the best interest of farmers in mind.

“He loves the farming community, but that also means that we have to take care of them. And for me what it means to take care of them is opening markets for our products. Not just a subsidized check, but rather having markets.”

Feenstra says those include export and biofuel markets.
