Feenstra identifies several ag priorities for new Congress

A member of the House Agriculture Committee lists several priorities for the new Congress.

Republican Randy Feenstra of Iowa tells Brownfield foreign ownership of farmland needs to be addressed.

“It’s a hot topic that we want to resolve. I’ve got a couple bills when it comes to precision ag loan program, a bill that the new technologies (like) we see at the Farm Progress Show, that farm producers can use those new technologies and buy those new technologies.”

He says Congress also has an opportunity to bring fairness and transparency to the cattle market.

“For me this has always been a big issue. Our cattle and livestock producers continue to see a lack of transparency with the big packers. I know prices are up when it comes to cattle, but we still have to get this resolved.”

On the next farm bill, Feenstra says he’s looking to maintain what’s working and make some necessary tweaks.
