Feenstra sees bipartisan momentum building on farm bill

A member of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee is optimistic farm bill negotiations are becoming more bipartisan.

Iowa Republican Randy Feenstra says passing a bill out of committee was a significant step forward.

“The big part there was it was bipartisan. I mean you had seven Democrats, that is a big deal. When you get seven Democrats (in the committee), that means that if we take it to the Floor we could probably have 15 to 20 Democrats.”

A long-standing farm bill coalition of Democrat and Republican lawmakers was fractured over disagreements in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Feenstra tells Brownfield the Senate Ag Committee might follow the House lead.

“The Senate has already said ‘hey, maybe with that bipartisan group that maybe we’ll take the House bill and try to run it through the Senate.’ And that’s obviously what we’re pushing for.”

Feenstra says he’s hopeful the farm bill will be taken up on the House Floor once the congressional recess is over.
