Fertilizer markets calm a bit

An economist with the Fertilizer Institute says the fertilizer markets are much calmer now than they were this time last year.

Veronica Nigh tells Brownfield there’s less volatility so the product is easier for farmers to price month-over-month.

“Production is looking good. We’re higher at this point this year than we were last year and natural gas prices are coming down and some of the input pressure, especially on the nitrogen side, is coming down.”

Nigh says she’s also watching geopolitical issues for any impacts that might have on the future of fertilizer prices.

Brownfield interviewed Nigh at NAFB Washington Watch in early May.
