Fertilizer sticker shock

A farmer in southern Minnesota is shocked by the high price of inputs.

Wanda Patsche raises corn, soybeans, and hogs in Martin County and says she recently received a bill for fall fertilizer.

“And I absolutely had to do a double-take. And I know once I finish fall harvest, I’m going to take a look at the numbers. but it’s really high. I just was pretty astonished with what it’s costing for fertilizer.”

She tells Brownfield the price has nearly doubled in the past year.

“That’s a big concern of ours, those input costs. And it’s all the way from fuel to fertilizer to seed costs, all of that. So definitely not what we were hoping for.”

Patsche says input costs are also pressuring the hog operation as feed prices remain high.
