Fieldwork, 2026 financial planning prioritized post-harvest

Fall fieldwork is in full swing for eastern Iowa farmer Tim Meyer.

The Henry County producer tells Brownfield weather conditions have been favorable.

“We’re doing dirt work right now and I think it’s going to end up being a really good fall for us,” he said. “I think we’ll get everything done, which we didn’t quite get to that last year, so we’re going to get all tillage work done for sure.”

He says fertilizer applications will be a priority.

“When you take those kinds of yields off, I think a guy should probably put a lot of fertilizer back on. We’re concentrating on that.”

Meyer says harvest finished up earlier than expected, which allowed him to focus on other on-farm needs.

“We’ve got some building projects we need to do,” he said. “Of course our hogs are going in and out all the time, and we’ll get the cows home and get them worked. It’s that time of year. It’s a busy year.”

He says financial planning for the 2026 growing season is underway as well.
