First of its kind soy processing plant proposed in North Dakota

A first-of-its-kind soybean processing plant in North Dakota is one step closer to fruition.

Minnesota Soybean Processors (MnSP) and its North Dakota subsidiary have selected 150 acres near Spiritwood—an unincorporated town between Fargo and Jamestown—as the proposed site for the $240 million dollar facility.

By selecting the site, the cooperative can now conduct a feasibility study alongside the North Dakota Ag Products Utilization Commission.

The plant would be an integrated soybean crush facility and refinery, capable of crushing 125,000 bushels per day while utilizing steam from the nearby coal-fired power plant operated by Great River Energy.

It would produce soybean meal, refined, bleached and deodorized soybean oil and biodiesel.

Minnesota Soybean Processors says it will move forward with construction following further due diligence, necessary approvals and a successful engineering study.
