Fischer: senate farm bill positions year-round E15 for advancement

A U.S. senator from Nebraska says bipartisan support has positioned nationwide, year-round E15 to advance through the Senate farm bill.

Deb Fischer tells Brownfield “That is just huge to be able to get this close to getting it in the farm bill and then hopefully to the president’s desk.”

Fischer is the sponsor of the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Act of 2025. This wasn’t initially included in the first draft of the committee’s bill.  

“We’ve just been working and really broadening the base of our supporters to include Chairman Boozman. He worked with Senator Capito because that’s usually the jurisdiction it’s in the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. And so, we’ve got it over to ag committee to be able to get this done.”

Fischer tells Brownfield E15 has bipartisan support in committee, and as the farm bill moves forward, she’s optimistic lawmakers from oil-refining states will support the legislation as well.

“We’ve worked with senators in states that have these refineries and all of them that have the smaller refineries. We’ve been able to grandfather those under this legislation, I think that’s important. These jobs are important in those states.”

Fischer says changes made to other parts of the farm bill ahead of Thursday’s markup make it more bipartisan, and she’s encouraged the farm bill will advance out of committee ahead of the August recess.
