Flooding results in livestock losses

Flooding in the Upper Midwest is resulting in livestock losses.

Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association president Jake Thompson tells Brownfield the southwest corner of the state is most effected.

“With this drastic change in cool to hot and the water stresses, we did have a feedlot call that had fairly higher death loss due to some of this water and stress that they’re dealing with in cattle and doing everything they can to minimize that.”

He says impacted producers should contact their local FSA office.

“Depending on the size of operation and the amount of impact that’s happened, you could look at doing a livestock indemnity program.”

Thompson says even if threshold numbers aren’t reached, it’s still a good idea to reach out.
