Foreign ag land ownership bill expected to return in MO Legislative session
A state lawmaker wants to prevent certain countries from buying any Missouri land and restrict foreign farmland ownership.
Representative Mike Haffner, a co-chair of the Missouri Legislature’s Joint Committee on Agriculture, plans to give a similar bill that he offered this year another a try next session…
“It involves two different aspects. It’s a national security issue, because we want to make sure Missourians are safe and it’s an agricultural issue, to protect the food supply. We have to merge what’s going on with the marketplace and national security.”
Several bills were offered this year on foreign ag land ownership and the issue is expected to be a focus again in 2024. There were no opposing arguments or testimony for or against the effort at a joint committee hearing last Thursday.
