A past president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association says he’s frustrated a federal solution for year-round E15 was left out of the government funding bill.

Lance Lillibridge, who raises corn and cattle in eastern Iowa, says a permanent fix has been long overdue. “This should have been a done deal years ago,” he said. “We’ve been working on it for a little over 11 years, and there’s absolutely no reason why E15 shouldn’t be available to consumers all year long across the entire nation.”

He tells Brownfield an E15 provision in the Continuing Resolution wouldn’t have brought on any additional costs to taxpayers. “Not only is it good for the environment, it’s good the pocketbook, it’s good for farmers, and there’s just not a loss in that whatsoever.”

Lillibridge says some members of Congress fought hard for the provision. “Our Iowa delegation was absolutely for it. They’ve always been champions of biofuels, but I don’t know how we’re missing the message to the others to get this done.”

A year-round E15 solution was included in an initial government funding bill proposal, but was ultimately scrapped in the final version that was passed by the House.
