Four new HPAI cases in Iowa

Highly pathogenic avian influenza continues to spread in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says four new cases of the disease have been confirmed since the weekend. The impacted sites include a commercial layer flock in O’Brien County, a commercial layer flock in Sioux County, a commercial turkey flock in Worth County, and a backyard mixed species flock in Monona County.

Iowa has now had 11 detections of H5N1 HPAI within poultry this year.

State Ag Secretary Mike Naig says if poultry producers or people with backyard flocks suspect signs of the disease, they should contact their veterinarian immediately.
