Fund trading, weather among major forces moving grain markets
A farm business management instructor says several factors are currently influencing the grain markets.
Kristina McVicker is with South Central College in Mankato, Minnesota.
“Futures are reacting to the national and global picture, with the USDA reports, the I States’ weather, fund buying and selling. That’s been I think a huge factor here lately. Exports, China, South America, and then the biofuel policies.”
She tells Brownfield there are opportunities to lock in profits.
“We’ve had some nice little rallies here to where maybe we can execute on that.”
She encourages growers to consider basis levels, potential carry in the market, and timing sales around cashflow needs.
McVicker made these comments during Brownfield affiliate KNUJ’s Farm Forum Friday.
