GDT index down Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index fell by three-tenths of a percent Tuesday.  Price gains in the Cheddar cheese and anhydrous milk fat markets nearly made up for losses in the butter, Mozzarella cheese, lactose, and skim milk powder markets.

Cheddar cheese was up 4.2% to $4,702 per metric ton, or $2.13 per pound.

Anhydrous milk fat was up three tenths of a percent to $7,229 per metric ton, or $3.27 per pound.

Whole milk powder held steady at $3,553 per metric ton, or $1.61 per pound.

Butter prices fell three tenths of a percent to $6,495 per metric ton, or $2.94 per pound.

Skim milk powder fell 1.8% to $2,745 per metric ton, or $1.24 per pound.

Lactose was down 5.8% to $895 per metric ton, or $0.40 per pound.

Mozzarella cheese fell 8.2% to $4,559 per metric ton, or $2.06 per pound.

Butter milk powder was not available in Tuesday’s trading event.

There were 127 winning bidders in 17 rounds of trading Tuesday.  Overall, 38,956 metric tons of dairy products were sold.
