GDT index falls Tuesday
The Global Dairy Trade index was down six-tenths of a percent in Tuesday’s trading. Prices for all dairy products except butter were down, with Cheddar cheese, lactose, and skim milk powder taking the biggest price drops. Tuesday was the first event since January 7th where the index fell.
There were 120 winning bidders in 15 rounds of trading Tuesday, selling 22,651 metric tons of dairy products globally. The average winning price was $4,370 per metric ton.
The breakdown of prices:
Butter was up 2.2% at $7,378 per metric ton, or $3.34 per pound.
Mozzarella cheese was down 0.1% at $4,148 per metric ton, or $1.88 per pound
Whole milk powder prices fell 0.2% to $4,153 per metric ton, or $1.88 per pound.
Anhydrous milk fat was down 0.8% at $6,723 per metric ton, or $3.04 per pound.
Skim milk powder fell 2.5% to $2,754 per metric ton, or $1.24 per pound.
Lactose was down 3.4% to $1,015 per metric ton, or $0.46 per pound.
Cheddar Cheese fell 3.4% to $4,862 per metric ton, or $2.20 per pound.
