Georgia farmer breaks own soybean yield record

The national soybean yield record-holder has eclipsed 200-plus bushels an acre two years in a row.

Alex Harrell farms in southwest Georgia and broke the record for soybean yield in 2023 at 206 bushels per acre.

“And this year we were able to break it with 218 using Pioneer Z Series (soybeans).”

Speaking to Brownfield Tuesday at the Farm Progress Show near Boone, Iowa, he said the record beans were planted March 21st and withstood a dry spell from late May through June.

“We didn’t get any rain (and) we had a 105 degree heat index for four or five weeks, but luckily we were already past the bulk of flowering and were in grain fill. It was pretty detrimental to our corn crop, but on the soybean side we were in grain fill and it actually helped us.”
