Getting the most out this year’s crop

A Helena product specialist says the fungicide decision could be a difficult one for some farmers this year.

Emily Swartz says market conditions have a lot of her growers on the fence. “But we need to be smart about what we’re seeing in our crops and what our expectations are for that fungicide pass,” She says.  “For both corn and soybeans.”

She tells Brownfield with a year like this, where there have been early detections of tar spot and southern rust starting to move in in corn along with annual concerns about  white mold and frog eye leaf spot in soybeans.

“Fungicide is that last pass where you can have that control to keep your bushels and really fill that bin,” she says.  “And maximize that production on that acre.”
