Global Dairy Trade index down slightly Tuesday
The Global Dairy Trade index fell slightly in Tuesday’s trading session. Butter, whole milk powder, and lactose saw prices go down, while cheese, butter milk powder, skim milk powder, and anhydrous milk fat saw price gains.
Butter milk powder was up 8.4% to $3,024 per metric ton, or $1.37 per pound.
Skim milk powder was up 4.5% to $2,753 per metric ton, or $1.24 per pound.
Mozzarella cheese jumped up 7.0% to $5,145 per metric ton, or $2.33 per pound.
Cheddar cheese was up nine-tenths of a percent to $4,324 per metric ton, or $1.96 per pound.
Anhydrous milk fat was up seven-tenths of a percent to $7,311 per metric ton, or $3.31 per pound.
Butter prices fell nine-tenths of a percent to $6,675 per metric ton, or $3.02 per pound.
Whole milk powder was down 2.5% to $3,396 per metric ton, or $1.54 per pound.
Lactose prices fell 8.9% to $863 per metric ton, or $0.39 per pound.
There were 128 winning bidders in 20 bidding rounds Tuesday, with 38,346 metric tons of dairy products sold.
Tuesday was also the first time for new participant Arla Foods from Europe, which entered the GDT selling Mozzarella blocks. Arla Foods is a global dairy cooperative owned by more than 9,700 milk producers in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
