Global Dairy Trade index down Tuesday
The Global Dairy Trade index fell nine-tenths of a percentage point Tuesday, marking the first decline after three straight events with sizable gains. The last event two weeks ago saw the index jump 4.6%.
Mozzarella cheese and anhydrous milk fat gained value, while lactose, Cheddar cheese, butter and powder products lost value.
There were 110 winning bidders in fifteen rounds of bidding Tuesday, with 15,194 metric tons of dairy products sold.
The breakdown of products and prices:
Anhydrous milk fat was up 0.9% to $7,273 per metric ton or $3.29 per pound.
Mozzarella cheese was up 0.7% to $4,788 per metric ton or $2.17 per pound.
Lactose was down 13.2% to $1,398 per metric ton or $0.63 per pound.
Cheddar cheese was down 9.2% to $5,007 per metric ton or $2.27 per pound.
Butter was down 1.5% to $7,821 per metric ton or $3.54 per pound.
Whole milk powder was down 1.0% to $4,332 per metric ton or $1.96 per pound.
Skim milk powder was down 0.7% to $2,817 per metric ton or $1.27 per pound.
Butter milk powder was not available for trade on Tuesday’s event.
