Global Dairy Trade index drops significantly
The Global Dairy Trade index had its biggest decline so far this year, falling 4.1% in Tuesday’s trading session.
Significant gains in butter milk powder and lactose prices were offset by losses in every other category, with whole milk powder taking the biggest loss of 5.1%.
On Tuesday, 110 winning bidders purchased 25,705 metric tons of dairy products in 22 rounds of bidding, in just under three hours.
The breakdown:
Butter milk powder was up 9.3% to $3,124 per metric ton, or $1.41 per pound.
Lactose was up 4.2% to $1,375 per metric ton, or $0.62 per pound.
Mozzarella cheese prices fell 0.2% to $4,790 per metric ton or $2.17 per pound.
Skim milk powder was down 1.7% to $2,718 per metric ton or $1.23 per pound.
Cheddar cheese was 2.8% lower at $4,860 per metric ton or $2.20 per pound.
Anhydrous milk fat was down 4.2% at $6,928 per metric ton or $3.14 per pound.
Butter prices dropped 4.3% to $7,522 per metric ton or $3.41 per pound.
Whole milk powder took the biggest price decline, down 5.1% to $3,859 per ton or $1.75 per pound.
