Global Dairy Trade index starts year lower

The Global Dairy Trade Index fell for a second straight trading session Tuesday.

Cheese, butter, and buttermilk values rose, while powders, lactose, and anhydrous milk fat values fell.  The average winning price for products was $4,029 per metric ton, down 1.4% from two weeks ago.

There were 143 winning bidders during 17 rounds of bidding Tuesday.  30,156 metric tons of dairy products were sold during this event.


Prices:

Mozzarella cheese had the biggest gain, up 3.6% to $4,173 per metric ton, or $1.89 per pound.

Butter prices rose 2.6% TO $6,815 per metric ton, or $3.09 per pound.

Cheddar cheese was up 1% to $4,728 per metric ton, or $2.14 per pound.

Butter milk powder rose 0.9% to $3,116 per metric ton, or $1.41 per pound.

Anhydrous milk fat prices fell 1.6% to $7,169 per metric ton, or $3.25 per pound.

Whole milk powder was down 2.1% to $3,804 per metric ton, or $1.72 per pound.

Skim milk powder prices fell 2.2% to $2,682 per metric ton, or $1.21 per pound.

Lactose was down 2.4% to $900 per metric ton, or $0.40 per pound.
