Global Dairy Trade index up slightly Tuesday
The Global Dairy Trade index rose eight-tenths of a percentage point in Tuesday’s trading session. The biggest price gains were for Mozzarella cheese and lactose, which had very few sales. Whole milk powder accounted for half of Tuesday’s sales volume and skim milk powder accounted for more than a quarter of the sales.
Mozzarella cheese prices rose 4.5% to $5,351 per metric ton, or $2.42 per pound.
Lactose was up 3.5% to $896 per metric ton, or $0.40 per pound.
Cheddar cheese rose 2.9% to $4,441 per metric ton, or $2.01 per pound.
Skim milk powder was up 2.2% at $2,809 per metric ton, or $1.27per pound.
Whole milk powder was up 1.5% at $3,448 per metric ton, or $1.56 per pound.
Anhydrous milk fat prices fell 1.2% to $7,220 per metric ton, or $3.27 per pound.
Butter was down 1.7% to $6,546 per metric ton, or $2.96 per pound.
There were 127 winning bidders who purchased 38,814 metric tons of dairy products in 16 rounds of bidding Tuesday.
