Global Dairy Trade index up Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index rose 2.3% in the last trading session of the year Tuesday.

The average price was $3,388 dollars per metric ton with 108 winning bidders in 20 rounds of trading.  27,379 metric tons of dairy products were sold in Tuesday’s event.

The biggest gain was in the butter market, which was up 9.9% at $5,458 per metric ton, or $2.47 per pound.

Cheddar cheese was up 6.9% at $4,265 a metric ton, or $1.93 per pound.

Whole milk powder rose 2.9% to $3,207 per metric ton, or $1.45 per pound.

Anhydrous milk fat was up two-tenths of a percent at $5,578 per metric ton or $2.53 per pound.

Mozzarella cheese, which was new to the GDT platform two weeks ago, was down 1.1% at $3,960 per metric ton or $1.79 per pound.,

Skim milk powder fell 1.3% to $2,620 per metric ton or $1.18 per pound.

Lactose held steady at $796 per metric ton or $0.36 per pound.

Butter milk powder was not available during this trading event.
